Peter Facinelli officially filed for divorce from Jennie Garth, his wife of almost 11 years, on Wednesday, March 28 in Los Angeles.

The couple announced their decision to split on March 13.  In the paperwork he filed, Facinelli cited “irreconcilable differences” as the cause of the divorce and listed the couple’s separation date as January 1, 2012.  He has requested joint custody of their three daughters.

Garth filed response documents requesting joint custody as well, according to TMZ.com.  She also asked that her last name be changed from Facinelli back to Garth.

“I was very resistant [to the divorce],” Garth told People in an interview on Wednesday. “I didn’t want it to happen. It took me some time to come to peace with it.”

Garth’s new reality TV show, “Jennie Garth: A Little Bit Country,” is scheduled to premier on April 20 on CMT.  Facinelli will not appear in the TV series, but it is speculated that the divorce will be addressed on the show
