A Federal Way man has been jailed on $2 million bail after local Police say he admitted to stabbing his live-in girlfriend to death during a Washington State domestic violence incident. The man, 29-year-old Kenneth Mace, has been charged with premeditated first-degree murder.

Federal Way Police responded to the crime at around eleven at night on Friday, July 6, 2012. On the premises of the Camelot Lot Mobile Home Park, they found the body of 20-year-old Melinda O’Meara who had apparently been beaten and then stabbed over 100 times.

An early investigation into the domestic violence crime found that Mace was likely high on meth when he returned to the mobile home on Friday night after work. He argued with O’Merara, ate dinner, took a shower, and smoked marijuana before the argument resurfaced. This time, Mace told several witnesses that he “snapped,” beating and then stabbing his girlfriend.

Mace told a detective that he had blacked out, but also said his girlfriend attacked him with a knife before he struck her with a bong. Police say that while an autopsy showed O’Merara had all of her vital organs punctured by stab wounds, Mace had only minor injuries. The autopsy and interview also showed that O’Meara had been attacked with several different objects, including a serrated barbecue spatula. Police described the act of domestic violence as “brutal and senseless.”

Later this month, Mace will appear in Norm Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent.
