My strategy for creating New Year’s Resolutions is to make a long list, and celebrate my success if I achieve even one of them. For the fitness minded, your list might include a more dedicated strength training plan, a daily 5 mile run, eating healthier, or trying a new discipline like rowing. For those more focused on financial concerns your list might include making a budget and sticking to it, starting a retirement plan, adding more to your 401(K), or reducing unnecessary expenditures. Perhaps you want to focus on mindfulness practices such as meditation, journaling, tai chi, or taking action to express gratitude or thankfulness.

When people express reluctance or even abhorrence at the idea of hiring a lawyer, I always want to respond, “If you needed surgery, would you hesitate to go to a Doctor?” We all need professionals to help us navigate unknown worlds, and we don’t hesitate to use car mechanics, plumbers, tax preparers, and hair stylists.
