NFL Hall of Famer Files For Divorce

Posted on Feb 27, 2012
After more than 11 years of marriage, former Detroit Lions running back Barry Sanders filed for divorce from his wife on Friday, February 24, 2012.

Sanders, an NFL Hall of Famer, filed divorce paperwork in Oakland County, Ohio, citing a breakdown in his marriage as the cause for the divorce from Lauren Sanders, a news anchor for WDIV-TV Channel 4 in Detroit.

The couple was married in November 2000 in Detroit. They have three sons, ages 10, 8, and 4. According to the filing, Sanders plans to seek joint custody of his sons and will agree to pay child support as directed by state guidelines.

Sanders retired from football in 1999, following a successful career that started at Oklahoma State University and later led him to play 10 NFL seasons for the Lions. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2004.
