Bellevue Man Kills Wife After She Threatens Divorce

A Bellevue man is accused of murdering his wife with a hatchet after she threatened to divorce him. 

The Seattle Times reports that 71-year-old James Schumacher told police he hit his wife, Jean Schumacher, on the head about six times while she slept and then shoved her body under a bed.  He turned himself in to police two days later.

In 2010, Jean Schumacher had sought a protection order against her husband in because she was afraid he might harm her.

Schumacher pleaded not guilty on Tuesday, April 10, 2012.  The Seattle Times reports that he is being held on $2 million bail.
