Ashlee & Jessica Simpson’s Parents File for Divorce

Posted on Nov 27, 2012

Tina and Joe Simpson, the parents of pop stars Jessica and Ashlee Simpson, have filed for divorce. While the family has publically stated that no third party is involved with the split, other news sources are reporting possible rumors of Joe Simpson having an affair or of coming out to his family.

The facts as they stand are that 52-year-old Tina Simpson filed for divorce in Texas, in September, citing "discord or conflict of personalities.” They have stated through their publicist that the split is amicable and that they would like privacy at this time. They were married in 1978 and had two daughters. They are now the grandparents to two: Jessica’s daughter Maxwell and Ashlee’s son Bronx.

In August, Joe Simpson was pulled over and arrested for suspected driving under the influence of alcohol. This week, he pleaded no contest and was sentenced to three years of probation. Joe has stated that he had a few glasses of wine at dinner and took the breathalyzer test willingly when stopped by police. Friends of the family say that the couple has been living separate lives for some time. Joe Simpson, a minister, continues to deny rumors that he is gay or has had affairs with men during his 34-year marriage.

Jessica Simpson was married to fellow singer Nick Lachey in 2002 and the couple briefly had a reality television show, Newlyweds. The couple divorced in 2005. Jessica was engaged again in 2010, this time to former NFL tight end Eric Johnson. They had their first child in 2012. Ashlee Simpson is married to long-time boyfriend, Peter Wentz, who she began dating in 2006.
