Wil received his undergraduate degree, cum laude, from Boston University in 1984, and his J.D. from Duke Law School in 1988. Over the course of his legal career, Wil has tried over 200 cases, first as a prosecutor in New York City and Seattle, then as a criminal defense attorney and family law attorney here in Washington State.
Criminal Law: Wil began his career as an Assistant District Attorney in the Sex Crimes Bureau of the Brooklyn DA’s Office, and four years later became Supervisor in the Special Victims Bureau of the Queens DA’s Office. In 1995, Wil came to Seattle to work as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in the Juvenile Court Unit of the King County Prosecutor’s Office. He later moved to the Felony Trial Unit, and then finished his prosecutorial career as Supervisor in the District Court Unit. In 1998, Wil left public prosecution and became a criminal defense attorney, representing clients in a wide range of cases involving: sex offenses, domestic violence, narcotics, perjury, robbery, assault, DUI, identity theft, and bank fraud.
Family Law: Wil handles a wide variety of family law cases involving: divorce, parenting plans, child custody, protection orders, child support, and post-judgment enforcement. In addition to his court-based practice, Wil is also trained as a collaborative family law attorney, for those clients wishing to resolve their cases without litigation.
Vacating Criminal Histories: Wil has helped many clients vacate their criminal convictions, seal their court records, and expunge their criminal histories. He has also helped clients restore their right to vote and possess firearms.
Addiction and Mental Health: Wil’s practice also focuses on issues related to addiction and mental health. His Continuing Legal Education seminar: “Life After Meth: Addiction, Recovery and Mental Health in the Legal Community” has been enthusiastically received all over the country. Wil’s own tale of addiction, recovery and reinvention was the cover story of Northwest Lawyer Magazine’s June 2014 edition. Learn more about his story here.
Wil brings a wealth of legal and life experiences to his practice, and is highly regarded as a formidable and effective advocate for his clients, both inside and outside the courtroom.
