Federal Way Man Falsely Claiming To Be Family Law Attorney

Posted on Nov 21, 2010

According to the stories of multiple Washington State families, Arnie Newman of Federal Way is making false claims about practicing family law and stealing money from those who are simply looking for legal help regarding their divorce case, child custody case, child support issues, or divorce mediation.

The man, who also goes by several other fake names such as Michael Leonard, is not a lawyer and does not run a business that is licensed in Washington State. However, he does advertise a number of family law services under the website PAPA, Parents Against Parental Alienation. Tragically, his victims soon discover that he will take their money and then cut off all communication – without ever helping your case.

One Snoqualmie man who contacted Newman from the PAPA website ended up sending him $3,500 in cash in exchange for help with his child support payment legal issues that he was struggling with as an unemployed divorced father. Another Washington Woman, Trudy Fritz of Pasco, needed help updating her parenting plan five years after a contentious divorce with her husband. She, too, wrote a check for $3,500 and then never heard from Newman again and never received legal help.

Shockingly, a reporter from KIRO 7 Eyewitness News even found that Newman himself has never paid the child support that he owes his own children.

What is being done about Newman and his illegal business practices? Right now, nothing. Currently, he is not under investigation and no charges have been filed.
