After a month in foster care, the four-year-old sister of a missing Bellevue toddler has been reunited with her father after a judge’s custody decision.
Last month, two-year-old Sky Metalwala was reported missing by his mother, Julia Biryukova. She explained to police that she left the toddler in an unlocked car after it broke down when she went for help with his older sister. When they returned to the vehicle, he was gone.
The father of the two children, Solomon Metalwala, does not believe that his recently divorced partner is telling police the whole story. He has told authorities that the two parents have been embroiled in a Washington State child custody case and that his ex-spouse isn’t to be trusted. While Biryukova has largely refused to answer police questioning, she is not officially considered a person of interest in the missing child case.
Before Sky disappeared, he and his sister, Maile, were both in the physical custody of their mother for one year. Now, Maile is in the care of her father as Bellevue Police continue their investigation.
Last year, Biryukova obtained a Washington State protection order against her ex-husband.
