A Bad Year For The Stars: 2010 Celebrity Divorces

While the divorce rate in the United States is uncomfortably high in general, the divorce rate for Hollywood stars and other celebrities is significantly higher. In fact, a study of celebrities that have won Golden Globe awards revealed that only 35 percent of celebrity unions are successful in the long run.

•    Actress Chalize Theron and Irish movie director Stuart Townsend ended their nine-year relationship after Theron reportedly felt that they were more like brother and sister.
•    Oscar-winner Sandra Bullock and reality TV show star Jesse James divorced after five years and while in the middle of the adoption process. The divorce took place after James admitted several extramarital affairs.
•    Actress Kate Winslet and film director Sam Mendes ended their marriage after seven years when both mutually agreed to end their relationship. They now share custody of their son.
•    Golf superstar Tiger Woods and model Elin Nordegren ended their relationship after six years when sources revealed a large number of Woods’ affairs during his marriage.
•    Former Vice President Al Gore and long-time wife Tipper Gore ended their marriage after four decades together. The high school sweethearts told the media that they had grown apart and that the decision was mutual.
•    Actor George Lopez and wife Ann ended their marriage after 17 years together. During the marriage, Ann even gave George one of her kidneys.
•    Pop start Christina Aguilera and husband music executive John Bratman legally separated after five years of marriage. The couple says both will stay committed to their 2-year-old son Max.
