Homeless Domestic Abuse Victim Now Seattle University Graduate

Seattle resident Mary Guiberson has an inspiring lesson to teach Washington State domestic violence survivors: you can overcome.

In 2007, Guiberson graduated from Seattle University a master’s degree in organizational system renewal and design. In the 90s, however, she struggled with domestic violence, homelessness, and drug addiction. After she fled her abusive relationship and the drugs that were ruining her life, she spent over a year in Seattle’s Compass Center – a place where transient Washington residents can get counseling, support, and a second chance at life.

Since her graduation, Guiberson has worked at the Compass Center, the Freedom Project, a group dedicated to teaching nonviolent communication, and Thrivers Action Group, a domestic violence social awareness group. At all of her endeavors, she hopes to help abused, isolated, and forgotten women in the Seattle area – women who she can truly relate to and women she can certainly give hope to.
