Divorce Mediation Won’t Work Without Full Disclosure

This month, we focused on common reasons that divorce medication might not be ideal for some couples. Among the reasons are substance abuse problems, very complex finances, and, a history of domestic violence or abuse. A reason that we haven’t yet mentioned is the willingness of both parties to disclose information.

In traditional court divorces, full disclosure does not necessarily take place. In divorce mediation, both parties agree to share information openly and honestly throughout the process – especially when discussing assets and income. If one or both people involved in the mediation process do not want to fully disclose information, going to court may save frustration, time, and money. If both parties are willing to speak openly about their opinions, feelings, and personal information, divorce mediation will almost certainly be the less expensive, more private, and quicker opinion.
